Beautiful Lies is Lolo Zouaï's second EP. This EP contains three songs which are mellow and moody.
Background
Lolo Zouaï talked about the inspiration behind the EP in an interview with Paper Mag.
I was in a dark mood and I was just making kind of sad, moody music. It's been hard for me to make fun music. I had been touring for a while and the album... it's just all so different now. I was trying to find that inspiration again, but it's been hard to make music and those were the songs that came out. So I was like, "Okay, I should probably put these out." Plus, the release was all during quarantine, the art was shot in that apartment. Everything was with less resources; I worked with different people and I produced the "Beautiful Lies (Cold)" song by myself. It was just a different approach to the music.
Beautiful Lies was initially set to be released on June 1, 2020 but was pushed back to June 17, 2020. Lolo posted a message on the pre-save site regarding the postponement.
I have decided to postpone the release of ‘beautiful lies’ until next Wednesday, June 17th. I will be donating $5 for every pre-save towards the Loveland Foundation. I will also be donating 100% of my merch profits for the rest of the month towards Black Lives Matter & The LGBTQ+ Freedom Fund, and I will continue to donate 100% of my merch profits during every black music month towards the black lives matter movement for the rest of my career. I wouldn’t be who I am as an artist if it weren’t for the black artists i grew up listening to...Brandy, E-40, Aaliyah, Beyoncé, Jazmine Sullivan...the list goes on. This is not about me, but I know that having a platform comes with a responsibility to use my voice and speak up against the racial injustice, discrimination, and oppression that happens around the world every day. We’ve seen the progress that raising awareness and protesting has made in a matter of weeks (both in person and online), but racism and police brutality is an ongoing issue that’s existed in this country for years. I’m hopeful that we’re at a major turning point. If you’re uncomfortable right now just remember that change is uncomfortable.
All Beautiful Lies merch profits throughout the month were 100% donated to The LGBTQ+ Freedom Fund, The Loveland Foundation & Black Lives Matter.
